Who Announces the End?
Theater Gallery, The ArtsCenter
Carrboro, NC | May 10 – June 10, 2025
Curated by: Laurel Petri & Marin Carr-Quim
About the Exhibition
Who Announces the End? features work that embraces leisure, play, and irreverence as forms of resistance. The show centers on art that critically reflects on our relationships to the external world, particularly in relation to capitalist and colonial systems that create anti-playful and anti-community structures. The exhibition asks: How do we center play and joy in the artistic process? How can we reframe leisure so it’s not something to be earned? How can we prioritize life over the death drive of a capitalistic society? How do we connect to the world through love, rest, and humor? How can these tools help us heal toward a collective future?

About the Exhibition
SQUEEZE: The End of the Year Group Show 2023 centers on the theme of "peel", inviting artists to explore layers, surfaces, shedding, and what lies beneath. This group exhibition features diverse interpretations of the word and concept, from playful to visceral. In celebrating Peel Gallery’s birthday, the show asks: What do we discard or reveal? How do we transform through peeling back or building up? What hidden textures emerge when the surface is stripped away? The result is a collective reflection on exposure, decay, renewal, and the quiet poetry of what’s left behind
